CUV Partnership Research Pilots (2002)

The Community University of the Valleys Partnership is aiming to improve local opportunities for research on adult learning and good practice in widening participation, in order to inform future developments in learning provision. During 2002, the partnership commissioned a series of small-scale research pilots. The Pilots highlighted a range of important issues for further analysis and initial findings will be used to underpin the development of a regional research strategy.

ESF Objective 1 funding currently supports the coordination of The Community University of the Valleys Partnership. ESF support is focused on developing the capacity of partnership organisations to work collaboratively in the development of good practice in order to widen participation and learning and progression to higher learning. Wider Benefits of Learning - Research Website

The Centre for the Wider Benefits Of Learning (WBL) was established by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in 1999 to investigate the full range of benefits that learning brings both to the individual learner and society as a whole. Our two main objectives are:

To produce and apply models for measuring and analysing the contribution that learning makes to wide ranging social and private goals.

To devise and apply improved methods for measuring the value of various forms of learning, such as community-based adult learning, where we do not necessarily find standard outcomes such as formal qualifications.
