Summary:

The presentation will be a case study of good practice. DOVE Workshop is a community education centre in the voluntary sector, the organisation was established in 1984 and has developed into a community focal point that provides services and opportunities for all in the community.  Every activity and project developed by the organisation has education and social inclusion as its underlying themes.

Cwmdulais Uchaf Communities First Partnership was formed in 2002 as part of the Welsh Assembly Governnment’s Communities First programme, the partnership is currently in the process of writing an Action Plan for the community based on data gathered through community consultation. The case study will explore the relationship between DOVE Workshop and Cwmdulais Uchaf, the benefits and the challenges that come from working in partnership, and will focus on the importance of working together to achieve the greatest positive impact in and for the communities of the Dulais Valley. Issues raised will include: the pressure of creating and supporting partnerships; the benefits that can come from working in effective, pro-active and innovative partnerships; the vital role of education in community regeneration, the importance of an inclusive flexible curriculum and the power of conversation.
